#07-22 ALBW Day 6

 Day 6  - April 7, 2022 This was the day for another bus tour we definitely couldn't miss,  Sutton Park which was used in GJ as Ann Walker's Crow Nest home where Anne Lister began wooing her in 1832. The home was stunning but sadly there was no indoor photography allowed. The only photo we have is from someone else of the infamous stairway they both run up in series 1 after Ann asks "shall we go upstairs"? The grounds were beautiful and it was fun to see exteriors that were used in the series including the front entrance that Anne strutted up to at the end of series 1. We enjoyed a lovely tea with scones, jam & Devon cream before our tour. On our return to Halifax, we visited the Calderdale Archive Service where many of Anne Lister's diaries reside and a few items related to Ann Walker.   Next up was our final visit to the Halifax Minster (we could have gone there EVERY day!).  I was fortunate to stumble upon an area behind the organ where I saw the original o

 Day 5 - April 6, 2022 This was a special day as we did a bus tour to the West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS) in Wakefield, to see the "Anne Lister In Her Own Words" exhibit.  We viewed many of her actual diaries, letters including crossed letters (who could even read those?!) and saw codebreaker Jane Kendall's beautiful tapestry on display. It was interesting to also see the restoration process for Anne Lister's diaries and for other old documents.  As usual, we made a stop at the Piece Hall on our return, met up with codebreaker Janneke from the Netherlands, toured the information office and saw an exhibit of smaller models of Sophie Ryder's "Hares" sculptures. Dinner was a fine treat of a waffle, ice cream and caramel sundae for me! One of the highlights of our week was a mystery film night at the Piece Hall's Square Chapel.
