#06-22 ALBW Day 5

 Day 5 - April 6, 2022

This was a special day as we did a bus tour to the West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS) in Wakefield, to see the "Anne Lister In Her Own Words" exhibit.  We viewed many of her actual diaries, letters including crossed letters (who could even read those?!) and saw codebreaker Jane Kendall's beautiful tapestry on display. It was interesting to also see the restoration process for Anne Lister's diaries and for other old documents.

As usual, we made a stop at the Piece Hall on our return, met up with codebreaker Janneke from the Netherlands, toured the information office and saw an exhibit of smaller models of Sophie Ryder's "Hares" sculptures.

Dinner was a fine treat of a waffle, ice cream and caramel sundae for me!

One of the highlights of our week was a mystery film night at the Piece Hall's Square Chapel. "Flat" Pat even made an appearance!  We were privileged to see two documentaries that had not been seen by anyone yet.  The first was a documentary "Fit for Another World" created by students at Anne Lister College in York, only completed at 3:00 am that morning!

The second documentary was called "Gentleman Jack Change My Life" which was created by the BBC.  We were sworn to secrecy beforehand about the content of this documentary which aired on the BBC in May.  What a privilege to view these two documentaries and to hear the creators & contributors to both of these amazing pieces of work and are SO proud of our friend Yvonne.

We ended our day by a walk through the Piece Hall and Anne's statue.

Walked:  19,980 steps (13.22 kms)
